Haverford Township Resolution No. 2104-2018 (Passed October 2018)

In October 2018, the Haverford Township Commissioners made a historic move by approving Resolution No. 2104-2018. This resolution set forth ambitious goals for Haverford Township, aiming to achieve 100% zero carbon renewable power by 2035 and zero carbon transportation and heating by 2050. This commitment places Haverford Township among the growing number of local governments actively addressing climate change at the grassroots level.

Ready for 100 Initiative

Haverford Township proudly participates in the Sierra Club's "Ready for 100" initiative, supporting communities transitioning to 100% renewable energy.

Sustainable PA Communities Certification

Recognized for its sustainable efforts, the Township has achieved certification under the "Sustainable PA Communities" program.

Climate Action Plan (Adopted October 12, 2021)

Recognizing the urgent need to protect residents and businesses from climate risks, Haverford Township adopted a comprehensive Climate Action Plan in 2021. The Climate Action Plan is a guiding document to drive positive environmental change within Haverford Township. This plan not only focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also addresses existing climate risks such as stormwater flooding. The plan leverages common-sense approaches and innovative policies uniquely suited to our local government's capabilities.

Milestones:

Since the adoption of the Climate Action Plan, Haverford Township has achieved significant milestones:

Plastic Pollution Reduction Ordinance:

Implemented an ordinance in January 2023 to reduce single-use plastic bags and straws, making Haverford Township a leader in Delaware County.

Revised Composting Ordinance:

Revised an ordinance to provide guidance/regulation on backyard composting.

Recycling Initiatives:

Hosts annual electronics recycling events, partners with local entities for pumpkin and glass recycling programs, and provides designated bins for small electronic recycling and toiletry items.

Composting Incentive:

Through a USDA grant, introduced a composting incentive, allowing residents to try a composting service for free for two months.

Investments:
