Pennsy Trail Extension - Pedestrian Bridge to be Installed Saturday, May 18, 2024
Plan Ahead for Detours and Localized Power Outage
The highly anticipated Pennsy Trail extension is making significant strides with the scheduled installation of a pedestrian bridge over Manoa Road on May 18th. Once this crucial infrastructure is placed, the remaining 1600-foot section of the trail and related improvements can be completed. At that time, residents and visitors will have a seamless connection from the Llanerch Shopping Center on West Chester Pike to the Haverford Area YMCA on Eagle Road.
Nearby residents and businesses should be prepared for a temporary power outage on May 18th from 8 AM to 2 PM. PECO will notify affected customers via robocall in advance of the shutdown. Approximately 420 customers will be affected.
In addition, Manoa Road will be closed to through traffic between West Chester Pike and Darby Road during bridge placement on May 18th. Local residents and businesses will have access, but may need to enter from a different direction based on the work zone.
This portion of the Pennsy Trail is a continuation of earlier phases and will follow the former railroad bed. This project not only expands the trail network but also paves the way for future extensions, potentially connecting to Haverford Reserve in the north and Upper Darby Township in the south, further enhancing regional connectivity.
This project is funded by Haverford Township and grants from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission’s (DVRPC) Transportation Alternatives Set Aside Program. Haverford Township appreciates the ongoing support of PennDOT, DVRPC, Pennoni, TPD, Richard E. Pierson Construction, and all those who have been involved in this project over the years.
